Macsteel Exports Division and Africa Branches
Macsteel Exports is based in Dyson Road Wadeville, South East of Johannesburg in South Africa and has been in operation for nearly twenty years. The purpose of the division is to take all of Macsteel Service Centres SA’s (MSCSA’s) wide range of products and services to international markets.
The original name of the company was Group Overland because the primary targets for our goods were the African Overland markets. The name change to Macsteel Exports reflects the growth in territories with which we trade; that has made the business of MacExports truly global.
In addition to direct trade in Africa and the World, Macsteel Exports has stockholding branches in Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Ghana. There is also a mothballed branch in Zimbabwe.The branches employ over 200 staff in 15 locations.
The Exports Division in Johannesburg is run by four directors and has around 50 staff including a dozen international traders.
Between them, the Sales Director, managers and traders have a huge pool of specialisms in territories and product areas, because of Macsteel Exports mandate to offer “all the world’s steel to all the world” – we view this as a direction, not our destination.
Macsteel Exports offers a wide range of buying options depending on the customer’s requirements in terms of timing, quantity and price. We can get product to a customer:
- From our own stockholding in Johannesburg
- From the stockholdings of other Macsteel business units
- Ex-stock from the African Branches
- Direct to customers from South African mills
- Direct to customers from mills around the world
There is immense flexibility in what we can do; from supplying a few lengths of pipe to Maputo, to a few thousand tonnes of coil from India to Brazil.
In addition to our in-house abilities and strengths, the Exports division has the collective experience and commercial power of MSCSA, the leading steel service centre and distributor of steel products in Africa.
