During the last 4 years there has been apex performance in the steel sector. It has been proved [...]

During the last 4 years there has been apex performance in the steel sector. It has been proved that for the last 37 years it is only the steel industry that has figured in the top consistently for 5 years.China has been a major force in the steel industry. There has been a rise of steel produce from 13% in 1995 to 32% in 2005 in China. However, China’s demand for steel has grown just as fast, and it remains a net importer of steel.

In the recent times due to global market the steel industry has undergone a significant impulsiveness. It is the global market that drives the steel sector.During the 2008-2009 period the crash in the steel market has forced the US to introduce import tariffs. Activity in the UK steel-using sectors continued to decline sharply in the 2nd quarter of 2009. There was a decrease of about 23% in the time related to the same period in 2008. All the industries has to face the situation of decreased demand for the industrial produce in UK as well as the international markets.

New World Steel Trends

There as been a sharp rise in the levels of production of steel in the late 20th century to a shocking figure of 800 million tons per year.Today, it is difficult to imagine a world without steel.

During the 20th century, the consumption of steel increased at an average annual rate of 3.3%.It was the US that had the production of about 37% of total steel requirement of the world. With post war industrial development in Asia that region now (at the turn of the century) accounts for almost 40%, with Europe (including the former Soviet Union) producing 36% and North America 14.5%.

Steel consumption increases when economies are growing, as governments invest in infrastructure and transport, and build new factories and houses.Economic recession meets with a dip in steel production as such investments falter. The trend over the past three decades can also be seen to be in line with cyclical economic trends, with alternating periods of prosperity and recession. It is during this time that the demand for steel shot up in Western Europe apart from USA, Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and Japan. In any case one can witness a lot of permanency in the steel sector over a period of time .

The steel production has seen a significant change in the developing economies such as China, Brazil and India along with South Korea. Steel production and consumption grew steadily in China in the initial years but later it picked up momentum and the closing years of the century saw it racing ahead of the rest of the world.

The Future of Steel

In the recent countries it is South Korea and Brazil taking the lead with 46-48 million tones and 30 plus million tones respectively. This now leads the way to India. There has been a notification of steel production that has to be around 300 million tones per person so as to get a demarcation of being a developed country for India. That seems a far possibility with the current levels of consumption of only 50 million though one has to recollect its past history. In the year of independence 1947 India had a production of only one million tones. The rise to 14 million tones was noticed only after the economy was made a free zone in 1991. There is two fold increase in the production even when it has taken 10 years and is also doubling over the years. Steel Production in India is expected to reach 124 million tons by 2012 and 275 million tons by 2020, which could make it the second largest steel maker .

In the developed countries, the trend is on consolidation of industry. There has been an era of mergers taking place in the past many years. The primary aim has been to develop new products with the use of latest technology.

During the 2004 year the steel segment has seen a rise to the peak of billion tones. Much more, its growth will depend primarily on how much more steel is consumed in the developing countries.

The steel industry is a growing industry right now. With high demand for steel throughout the world, there [...]

The steel industry is a growing industry right now. With high demand for steel throughout the world, there are more and more steel refineries being setup every day. The steel industry is a very profitable industry as steel is a widely used metal. It is used in utensils, medical instruments as well as in the skeleton of many modern structures like stadiums etc. the many uses of steel make getting into the steel industry a very profitable and practical idea.

Steel industry is flourishing at the moment. Producers are specializing in one type of steel and making only the ones that are popular in their country or the one that is popular throughout the world. Everyday new products are made that use either pure steel or some alloy of steel. Due to the high demand it can be seen that more and more people are investing in steel these days and the metal is gaining popularity, both in production and usage, throughout the world. Due to the properties of steel, many industries use it in their products as it provides the products with strength, endurance and also the ability to withstand high temperatures. Steel being an alloy of iron is a lot more flexible thus, it is very easy to mould it into shapes without the fear that it would break.

The steel industry provides many types of steel being sold throughout the world. Different products require different types of steel for example cutlery requires stainless steel and railroad tracks require long steel. A very popular type of steel that is available on the market is cold rolled steel. As the name suggests, steel is processed while cold. It is manufactured from hot rolled coil that has been chemically cleaned before being rolled. The coil is initially cold, however while being reduced, the coil will get hotter as the steel work hardens. The cold rolling reduces the thickness of the steel. This thin steel is very useful and hence popular. This is because these thin and small rods, beams, sheets etc. go through a careful process of production due to which they are stronger than the steel that is not rolled. During the past 5 years, the cold rolled steel prices have been fluctuating with the highest prices being charged between 2007 and 2008. Cold rolled steel prices are always higher than normal steel prices because they require special machinery and a lot of expensive equipment is used. In addition, the temperatures that have to be maintained and the environment that is needed to build these cold rolled steel products increase the cost of production substantially.

Due to the many types of steel being produced, steel prices differ a lot for each kind. The methods of production being used as well as the different machinery that is used cause the steel prices to be different. In addition, the popularity of the type of steel also has a direct effect on the steel prices. They more popular a product is the higher the prices will be charged in order to make the maximum profit possible.

U.S. steel exports rose 19.1 percent year-over-year to 1.262 million tons in January, as shipments to Canada and Mexico offset declines to other regions.

Neighboring countries in the North American Free Trade Agreement accounted for more than three-fourths of exports. Shipments to Canada totaled 662,553 tons, up 16.9 percent year-over-year. Exports to Mexico rose 63.8 percent to 366,319 tons.

“Steel exports continued their solid gains in January based on strong exports to our NAFTA partners. Exports to other markets — the EU, non-NAFTA Western Hemisphere, Africa and Asia — all registered declines,” said David Phelps, president of the American Institute for International Steel.

Exports in January increased 5.1 percent from December, Commerce Department statistics show.

As you may know, there is a good and emerging market in Africa, because the demand of Steel Products is strong [...]

As you may know, there is a good and emerging market in Africa, because the demand of Steel Products is strong for the region’s development, whilst the markets in Europe and America are already quite mature.

More and more trading companies are focusing on Africa and would like to grasp the exciting opportunity to obtain more and more market share in the shortest possible time.

The Steel Products we’ve experienced a heavy demand for in Africa range from Hot Rolled Steel Plate, Galvanized Steel Sheet and Galvanized Steel Coil to Black Welded Pipe and Square Tube or Rectangular Tube. These Steel Products are indeed a diverse mix in this market and the quantity, per type of Steel Product requested in this region, is very abundant.

No trading company dealing with the Steel Products in this industry can let this excellent opportunity pass by. It is, however, obvious that good and bad quality Steel Products are intermingled in this market.

Several months ago, we received an inquiry of 500 tons of Square Tube and Rectangular Tube (Square Tube: 25x25x0.75 –50x50x0.75mm, length 5.7m). As we have affluent experience, we tried our best to provide the best and latest steel prices based on the wall thickness tolerance +/-10%, but our customer received another price nearly 20USD/TON lower than our offer. It was clear that this rival supplier must be providing a much larger wall thickness tolerance to achieve such a low quotation. It was indeed proved that we were right, because when the customer received the Square Tube and Rectangular Tube, the wall thickness was far thinner than his request and he was not satisfied at all.

In order to avoid such problems, we always recommend our customers to carry out an SGS or BV inspection before the goods are delivered to the port. It is equally important to stipulate this in the contract you sign with your supplier, as it will push the supplier to take extra special care in ensuring the Square Tube or Rectangular Tube for example, will indeed be manufactured to the parameters agreed upon in the contract. This way it will give you better peace of mind in knowing the Steel Products you receive will be spot on.

Steel offer several benefits right from economical to functional versatility and flexibility, environmental, safety and healthfactors. Steel is high quality constructional material and is available in exact and uniform shapes.

They are preferred over other metals because iron components get corroded when subjected to air and water with the passage of time while steel does not rot like wood and is impermeable to termites, insects and rodents. As steel is non-combustible there is no risk of fire and as a result you will be required to pay less insurance premium. They are completely recyclable. 60 million tons of scrap steel are recycled every year which is far greater in comparison to paper, aluminum, glass and plastic combined.

Internet offers you a wider choice of steel manufacturing companies and their products to see. In-fact they provide the ideal environment to search galvanized steel pipes and steel tubes manufacturers from the comfort of your home. Whether you are looking for galvanized steel, carbon steel, steel pipes, steel tubes, structural steel, round steel, black steel or ms steel the range is extensive and available at extremely competitive rates on the Internet.

Just a quick search online will display several companies in India and steel products manufactured by them. Simply browse through the pages of the sites. Choose a reliable steel manufacturing company who is in the business of providing high quality steel products for several years. Check the return policy and simply order the steel products you need. Order will delivered at the destination specified by you within few business days.

With several steel pipe manufacturer and supplier out there on the Internet you can easily the find right one who can provide you with the high quality steel tubes and pipes at cut throat market rates.
Moving into a new year, we have seen a variety of predictions made in terms of steel prices [...]

Moving into a new year, we have seen a variety of predictions made in terms of steel prices locally and around the world. Independent world research companies have collectively forecast that the Stainless Steel World Price will increase by roughly $US850 per tonne over the coming year, with noticeable change estimated to take effect within 6 months.

The estimated gain is expected to be driven by a combination of rising costs and stock building in the supply chains around the world.

Consumer steel inventory levels are relatively low in most world regions as many wholesale and private buyers have been reluctant to purchase stainless steel products in the intricate economic climate. This pushed the world average figure for cold rolled steel (type 304) to the lowest figure seen in 21 months. This figure was reached during the month of December in 2011.

Interestingly enough, nickel prices have escalated by approximately 10 percent. Chromium prices are expected to follow a similar pattern. But scrap costs are increasing. These factors are predicted to lead to stock replenishment by both distributors and end users as they attempt to buy ahead of higher stainless steel prices resulting from rising mill input costs.

With a global rise of stainless steel prices, which are expected to plateau near the vicinity of 25%, higher order volumes may be improving market conditions for raw material suppliers. In return this is likely to boost stainless steel figures in the coming months.

As per collective predictions, steel prices are likely to move back later in the year, although they are not expected to be seen as significant reductions.

Steel is an alloy which primarily consists of iron and varying percentages of carbon. High carbon steel artefacts [...]

Steel is an alloy which primarily consists of iron and varying percentages of carbon. High carbon steel artefacts and weapons dating back as far as 400 BC have been discovered in different geographic locations like India and Eastern Africa. During the 17th century in Europe, steel production underwent massive adjustments as a result of the industrial revolution causing large steel consumption demands.

At first one of the most widespread way to produce steel was by combining charcoal, iron ore and lime using sufficient heat to liquefy the three. When this liquid is allowed to cool it forms an iron which has a relatively high percentage of carbon in it. This was then heated again and beaten against an anvil with a hammer to remove the high levels of carbon until a stronger and more flexible product was produced, now recognized as mild steel. These days, air is forced through the liquid iron under extreme pressure, causing the carbon to attach itself to the oxygen and thus be removed from the iron as it passes through.

For centuries, steel has been at the core of manufacturing and construction industries and is still one of the fundamental supplies employed in contemporary building design today. The factors for this are several, for example the capability to be able to bend and shape steel to suite practically any imaginable requirements that modern day architectural trends may well demand, or that it could be constructed on site to form the solid framework needed to support the other great building necessity, concrete, means that it’ll continue to be an important component of the building and construction business for many more years to come.

It is very obvious that as far as the building and construction business is concerned, steel currently holds and will continue to hold its value as an essential element and influencing factor inside the industry. This is important to point out here as existing statistics point towards a fall in overall steel production and consumption, especially in Japan and China. A drop in consumption of steel in these two countries does have an effect on global steel usage statistics due to the fact that they have been up until now, the largest users of steel in the world. The Chinese governments order to minimize property speculation is said by many analysts to be the reason behind the closure of around 40 percent of China’s manufacturing factories, and that this is the trigger for the fall in demand for steel. Professionals are saying that Japan’s cyclic trend in GDP is currently at a low, and this together with a downward trend in steel production as well as the unfortunate recent earthquake disaster, are the combined cause of the country’s decreased consumption.

India is showing signs of filling the gap left by both China and Japan in terms of becoming a key consumer of steel due to its ever increasing role in the global manufacturing market. Actually, the largest consumer of steel besides the USA is said to soon be India, and Brazil is moving steadily towards becoming a key steel consumer also. Accordingly, the demand for the use of steel in the, machinery, electrical goods, motor vehicle production, manufacturing, as well as the construction industries is still undeniably strong. So with the demand for steel accross all forms of manufacturing in several countries looks to continue to be strong and as long as raw supplies of Iron Ore hold out, there ought to be lots of growth related to the steel industry.

During 2012, Macsteel Exports plans to advocate structural steel as the material of choice ever more passionately to an audience being bombarded with choices, especially when it comes to green building requirements. From building owners, developers and architects to engineers and contractors – we will seek to challenge and inspire through illuminating the many astonishing facts and uses of structural steel this coming year.

Currently structural steel is the global market leader and the most preferred structural framing material. It is sustainable, fast, available and economical. Everything required of a premium structural framing material. With a steady growing demand for structural steel, it demonstrates the continuing recognition of the advantages of steel.

In present times where environmental responsibility and sustainability factors are of real substance and no longer just trendy buzzwords, it’s good to know that apart from being an incredibly durable and versatile building material, steel is the most recycled material on the planet. Substantial national inventory means availability is assured.

This quality converts to shorter lead times and lower exposure to risk. Steel is fast to fabricate and erect, more than any other material, which results in reduced schedules and earlier revenue generation. Its economical benefits minimises installation and maintenance costs, especially since steel can be customised and treated for specific uses, which improves your bottom line.

It is the immense array of benefits that make steel the benchmark against which all other materials are compared.

The one and two story steel building systems of today have the greatest share of the nonresidential [...]

The one and two story steel building systems of today have the greatest share of the nonresidential market. The MBMA (Metal Building Manufacturers Association ) has substantiated this. The commercial uses of has comprised over 30% of building sales the all too familiar beige warehousing, but also has expanded into multi-windowed office complexes, gleaming auto dealerships, and modern airplane manufacturing facilities. The private sector is able to appreciate the sensibility of steel building construction over other more traditional forms. The reason for this is seen in the six in the six basic advantages that steel buildings can provide.

Today’s steel buildings have a number of advantages over their more conventionally built counterparts. One advantage is that most steel building systems are purchased through a single source. The can allow for one manufacturer, broker, or contract manufacturer to be retained and be responsible for the entire design and fabrication and delivery process. There is no need for contacting multiple vendors, one for doors, one for the roof, etc. The General Contractor and/or building owner do not have to worry about project delays because of incomplete or tardy shipments of vital components and accessories. Also, by using a single source resource, any problems during the construction or after occupancy are handled through only one company’s service department.
There is also a great amount of cost efficiency involved with the purchase of a steel building. Because the steel building system uses precision-fit pre-engineered components, this can greatly reduce the size of the work force required to erect the building. There is essentially no time devoted to the conventional construction methods of cutting, fitting, drilling, or welding. Material wastage is also minimized because all of the building parts are pre-formed at the factory to precise dimensions. Total cost savings for steel buildings when compared to traditional structures can be 20% at a minimum but certain projects may approach 50% in cost reductions.
Modern steel buildings have wide clear-span capability A steel structure can have clear-span width of up to 300 feet, saving the expense and obstruction of interior load bearing columns.
Another advantage is the quick occupancy time of steel buildings. Experienced erectors are very familiar with pre-engineered components and can construct a steel building and have it ready for business in about two-thirds of the time that stick built structures require.
Future expansion is also possible with steel building systems. Lengthening of the building merely requires removal of an endwall, adding the new framing along with the roof and wall panels, and, normally, reusing the original endwall.
Very low maintenance is required in steel building ownership. The steel surfaces are simple to clean. The finishes that are used today are also very resistant to any fading, discoloration, or corrosion.

The design of tree houses, thanks to Van Der Merwe Miszewski Architects, has evolved slightly from planks of XX pine wedged in quite solidly between wishbone joints in oak tree to a 2,475 square foot manoir three stories into the Cape’s canopy. The contemporary “tree house” design takes the form quite literally with five tree-like steel structures used to anchor the roof to the ground.

The lightweight transparent steel shell of the house is clearly visible through the glass enclosure, creating pockets of intense intimacy with natural surrounds and layers. What the “Tree House” does do, is show off the use of steel in contemporary design of residential developments.
